Weaving Chipwood Baskets in the Avinurme Wooden Handicrafts Center

Weaving a chipwood basket is the most popular attraction in the wooden handicraft centre and if there's a place in Estonia where this craft is known, it's Avinurme. Everyone can learn the basics of weaving a basket in the workshop with the help of an instructor: you pick out chipwood, weave a berry basket from the chips and finally apply a finish. All the participants will be given the necessary tools for weaving a basket and at the end of the workshop you have your own basket. We have seen the most genuine joy over something made with your own hands in the basket weaving workshop.

Räpina Song Festival grove

The song festival grove was planted under the leadership of the locals in 1969, on the centenary of the song festival, on the peninsula created by the construction of the Võru Street Bridge (Võru tänava sild). The landscaping work was undertaken by the Räpina Women's and Male Choir, which was preparing for the song festival, with its conductors, and the members of the nature conservation society together with young nature lovers. Each choir singer could plant their own tree.Even today, many important events start from the song festival grove. For example, on Children's Song and Dance Day, it has become a tradition to start the parade from the song festival grove. As part of this, a rowan is planted there and greetings are given to the participants.

Suur Seiklus canoe trips on Estonian rivers

A canoe trip is an excellent opportunity to discover Estonia's beautiful rivers and experience the importance of teamwork. A joint adventure on a body of water helps you get to know your companions better and develop cooperation skills. During the drier summer period, we paddle down larger rivers, where the water flows more calmly. During spring and autumn's high water seasons, there is an opportunity to discover less frequently visited waterways, such as the floods in Soomaa National Park. It is possible to order campfire meals or a bushcraft workshop to go along with your canoe trip. There is also the possibility of going on multi-day trips. Come and enjoy an adventure in nature — a canoe trip is an experience to remember!

Lutheran Church of Blessed Virgin Mary in Põlva

The Church of Blessed Virgin Mary in Põlva is one of the oldest churches in historical Võrumaa. The rarities of the church are the old altar painting The Last Supper (1650) and the altar panels (1647). There is an altar painting The Resurrection (Friedrich Ludwig von Maydell, 1845). The church was originally a square-shaped hall church with three naves. Today it has preserved from it a high tower with a deep niche and a Western façade. Interesting to know: According to a legend, the key of the church is held by a kneeling girl called Mary who is walled in. Allegedly that is also the origin of the name of the church and Põlva (‘knee’ for the Estonian ‘põlv’).
