Spring rafting on the Rivers of Võhandu and Piusa

Rafting trip takes place during spring freshet. On the trip, we'll be using simple new rafts - one for 7 and another for 9 people. The rafts are easy to steer and row. Correct technique is taught at the beginning of the trip. There is no fear of falling overboard and rafting through the rapids is as fun as jumping up and down on a water bed. Your guide is going to observe the trip from the river banks and will assist you if needed. Selgise cycling trail and Kärgandi campfire site

The length and terrain of the trail make it suitable for moderate training or leisurely enjoying the nature. The trail with its ups and downs runs along winding forest paths and straight forest rides, passing through different forest communities.The trail is 30 km long. It starts and ends at the Kukemetsa forest hut. The trail is marked with signs and runs along forest roads to the north.The best recreation sites along the trail are the forests, Selgise hills, Kukemetsa forest hut, which is approximately 500 m off the trail, and Kärgandi campfire site. The trail was built by the State Forest Management Centre.

Rõuge hill fort and prehistoric settlement

The cultural layer of Rõuge settlement hid several ruins of residential buildings and a number of findings of household items. Subsequent to the settlement is a fortress that is situated on the western part of the natural small cape and where the residential buildings were located, but today, only the end ramparts of the fortress with ditches in front of them can be seen. During Middle Iron Age, people mainly subsisted on slash-and-burn clearance, cattle-breeding was less developed. Some examples of tools of local craftsmen were found among the finds from Rõuge; the finds can be seen in Võrumaa Regional Museum.In 1613, Rõuge is mentioned as a parish for the first time. The modern-day small town came into being in the 19th century.
