The monument to the physician who studied and became a professor in Tartu was completed in 1952. The authors of the monument are J Raudsepp, A Mölder, P Tarvas, A Volberg.Nikolai Pirogov was the founder of experimental surgery, topographic anatomy and field surgery. His work made the surgeries performed in Tartu famous all over Russia and also abroad.
There are written notes about the Nutti watermill in the Livonian Government paper from 1865. In 1870, it was recorded which lands in which size belonged to the watermill. The Nutti mill is also a landmark for land plots. Today, the well-preserved Peedu mill complex is privately owned and subject to heritage conservation.The watermill was reconstructed a few years ago and offers a beautiful view of the Elva River.There are other watermills on the river: the Hellenurme watermill in the upper course and Vapramäe and Mosina watermill in the middle course.
The permanent exhibition Earth. Life. Story. includes nearly 8,000 scientific exhibit items, which tell the development story of planet Earth from the beginning of the universe until the modern day. The magnificent Neo-Renaissance style manor with a white main building was built during the time of G. J. Mannteuffel in 1860. In 1918, Julius Kuperjanov established a partisan battalion in Puurmani castle.At present, the castle houses the Puurmani Upper Secondary School.You can visit Puurmani castle and learn about its history in the course of the Forgotten Manors program during the visiting days in the summer. You can also order a tour of the manor house, manor park and the entire Jõgeva County. In the manor, we will look around different floors where you can see the countess's boudoir, a secret door leading to the tower, as well as the count's study and treasury. You can also order a night tour and catering.
The small wooden Tobrova tsässon on the right side of the Tobrova-Küllätüvä road looks like a small barn with a modest cross on the roof. This Orthodox chapel built in 1932 is dedicated to Easter – the most important holiday in Tobrova and nearby villages. Behind the Tobrova tsässon is the Luikjärve farm fort: a well-preserved Seto farm with a closed courtyard, which has been restored by the Obinitsa Museum.Contact the Obinitsa Museum for more information about the tsässon and the farm.
The monument to Peeter Siegfried Nikolaus Põld (1878–1930), the first Minister of Education and founder of the national university of Estonia, the first professor of pedagogy, was unveiled in front of the Ministry of Education and Research on 1 December 2008.The authors of the monument are sculptor Ekke Väli and architect Ain Rööpson.Under the name of Peeter Põld Day, student scientific conferences have been organised at the University of Tartu since 2008, and on the same day, the university issues a scholarship named after him.
