ULA bar

ULA is a cosy bar on the edge of Toome Hill in Tartu. ULA has the smallest bar building in Tartu, but we also have a beautiful yard area where we organise various events. In summer, we have concerts, DJ parties, and memory game and board game evenings. In autumn, we organise campfire evenings. Last winter, we decided to build a snow bar in our yard.We want to be the home bar for the people of the neighbourhood: we want to offer a cosy and pleasant place to meet, but also to offer Tartu residents and guests of Tartu something new and surprising – be it a haircut in the outdoor bar or a snow fort in the yard in the winter.

Gunpowder Cellar Restaurant

More than 300 years old, Gunpowder Cellar is a restaurant with a historic atmosphere, located in Tartu's Old Town at the foot of Toome Hill Park. The restaurant's menu combines classics from Estonian and German cuisine, offering flavors that are homely yet distinctive. The menu also includes soups and Estonian food that cannot be tasted elsewhere in Tartu. On-site, you can try the patented craft beer "Gunpowder Red," brewed specifically for this restaurant. Guests can access a three-century-old cellar hall with special acoustics, making the Gunpowder Cellar a popular place for concerts and events. For those who prefer a calmer atmosphere, private rooms are available for various gatherings. At Gunpowder Cellar, history, architecture, and culinary experiences converge. A visit offers an experience for both locals and international guests who wish to discover Tartu's cultural heritage and enjoy an authentic atmosphere. Tartu Gunpowder Cellar can also be explored via a virtual tour.

Rajaküla Old Believers’ Worship House

It is believed that the Raja congregation of Old Believers was established in the first quarter of the 18th century. The congregation was given permission to build its own church only in 1879. The church was destroyed during the Second World War – the only thing left is the belfry. The present worship house has 11 rooms. In 1854–1930 Gavriil Frolov lived in the worship house. He taught children icon-writing, reading and writing in Old-Slavic, also singing based on old musical notation.

  • Manors

Adavere manor

Adavere manor was first mentioned in records in the second half of the 17th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Adavere was under the rule of Põltsamaa castle, which governed all of the surrounding land and villages as the most important town in Central Estonia. Its massive slate main building was constructed between 1892 and 1893. The complex also includes outbuildings erected in the late 19th century – a workers' cottage and a barn with a drying shed. Manor park (dating from the 1740s) was one of the grandest in Estonia in its day, although little remains of its glory today. Good to know:* Today, the building is home to Adavere Basic School. During winter, you can go skating in the skating rink on the school stadium.* The manor can only be viewed from the outside.
