Monument to the Estonian Mother

The Monument to the Estonian Mother was inaugurated in Rõuge on 26 June 2010. The monument is meant to demonstrate appreciation for the Estonian woman as a mother, to express gratitute, and to value the survival of our people. Hans Sissas (1933 - 2012), who has recounted the stories of Estonian deportees and authored many memoirs, initiated the idea of a monument to the Estonian mother, and lead the efforts to have the monument completed. The monument is made from stone brought from Udmurtia, and is 3.6 high, weighing nearly 6 tonnes. The monument was designed by the artists/sculptors Ilme and Riho Kuld, and was made by the sculptors/stone masons Margus Kurvits and Kristjan Kittus.

Ülle B&B

Ülle B&B offers cosy accommodation in the small southern Estonian town of Tõrva. The house is on the banks of the Õhne River in the middle of a pine forest. Its terraced garden is the perfect place for barbecues, while there is a sandpit and swings for the children. Lake Vanamõisa, which has its own diving tower, is just 500 m from the house. In summer you can also spend the night in our garden cabins, which have cheeky names. Ülle B&B is a national Beautiful Home award winner.

Tartu Railway Station

Tartu Railway Station was built in 1876 outside of the city’s borders. It could be reached by Maarjamõisa tänav, which was lined with trees. The main building of the station consists of three parts and has a standard façade and a transverse gabled roof. Warehouses, platforms, a depot, a water tower, and two houses for railway workers were located next to the main building. In the 2000s, the building was restored under the architect Aivar Roosaar. In 2012, the building was reopened for passengers. Café Wedur is now operating in the station building. In front of the station are bike parking, and Tartu Smart Bike rental docks.
