Mäe-Lõhtsuu oak tree in Urvaste

Antsla vald, Võru maakond, 66512

People are becoming more and more interested in the trees of Estonia and tree tourism is becoming more and more popular. In terms of breadth, the Mäe-Lõhtsuu or Lõhtsu-Reinu oak tree is the second biggest in Estonia. It grows to the west of Urvaste church, next to the Mäe-Lõhtsuu mill on a steep incline close to the ruins of Lõhtsu Farm. Its girth is 7.03 metres and height 28 metres. People say that the tree is almost 300 years old, although researchers reckon it must be older (at least 400).Good to know: years ago, when the area around the tree was still covered in scrub, the hollow trunk of the tree was home to a bear enjoying its winter slumber.

Antonius Courtyard

Antonius Courtyard is a historical site in the heart of Tartu's Old Town, where history meets contemporary creativity. This special courtyard, with centuries-old craftsmanship and artistic heritage, offers the opportunity to experience a vibrant cultural space in an authentic environment. Historically, this place is associated with the craft guild known as the St. Anthony's Guild, whose roots go back to the Middle Ages. Guilds played an important role in the economic and social life of cities, bringing together masters and regulating crafts and trade. The area was located near St. John's Church and was part of the medieval city structure where craftsmen lived and worked. Today, Antonius Courtyard is an inspiring creative center where designers, artists, and craftsmen work. It is a popular venue for events — concerts, performances, and other cultural events are held here year-round, bringing together designers, creative entrepreneurs, and visitors. During opening hours, you can explore the history exhibition about the Tartu County Creative Path and Tartu Small Guild.

Leevaku Chimney

Leevaku Chimney, which is joked about as being the world's tallest sauna chimney (at 50 metres), was completed in 1923 for the local brick factory. However, the factory soon went bankrupt, as the raw ingredients being sourced locally were of insufficient quality. After the factory closed, the owner of the neighbouring residence built a wooden sauna in the chimney, and it is still used today. The chimney can only be viewed from the outside.
