Karl August Hermann Monument

Karl August Hermann (23 September 1851, Võhma village, Põltsamaa parish – 11 January 1909, Tartu) was an Estonian composer, linguist, and encyclopaedist. He was an important figure in the national movement. He published the first encyclopaedia in Estonian, was one of the organisers of several song festivals, and composed several hundred pieces of music, the best known of which are, for example, ‘Kungla rahvas’ and ‘Oh laula ja hõiska’. He bought Perno Postimees, brought the publication to Tartu, and turned it into the first Estonian-language daily newspaper.The monument to Karl August Hermann in the park of Vana-Põltsamaa Manor was opened on 10 June 1935. The author of the statue is Alfred Zolk-Leius.

Mustjärve hiking trail

A beautiful bog lake hides in the shade of a pine forest in the northern part of the Lulli bog next to Lake Võrtsjärv. The natural lake is large (23 ha) and very shallow (there is only a metre of water here).The hiking trail starts at the information stand in the car park. Further on, the boardwalk leads directly to the water, which offers scenic views of the lake and the surrounding bog landscape. The short hiking trail (2.3 km) runs around the lake. It is impossible to get lost here, because the trail is circular and everyone finally gets back to the starting point.In the second half of the summer, cloudberries, blueberries, cranberries, and mushrooms can be picked from the surroundings.

Leevaku Hydroelectric Power Station and Museum

The power of the flowing waters of the river Võhandu has been harnessed in Leevaku since 1835, when the first mill was constructed here. In the early 20th century, there was a flour and timber mill here, as well as a wool factory. Clay pottery was also made. Leevaku hydroelectric power station was destroyed during World War II. In 1947, it was restored as a joint project of the young people of Võrumaa. It was closed two decades later and re-opened in 1993.During the summer, a museum is opened at the power station. You can find out about the history of the station, as well as that of Leevaku, and see how Soviet-era electricity meters worked.Tourist groups can book a visit outside schedule in advance by phone.

Tamme Outcrop hiking track

Tamme Outcrop hiking track is located on the eastern shore of Lake Võrtsjärv between the villages of Tamme and Neemisküla in Elva municipality. The area is rich in Devon sandstone outcrops from the Aruküla layer. Tamme Outcrop, which is located on the track, is an area where placoderms have been found and where valuable paleontological material has been collected since the second half of the 19th century.Ten information boards have been set up along the hiking track, which is almost 2 km long. They provide interesting information about the local natural environment. If you walk 1 km north on the track, you can turn back and hike back along a field or on a forest trail on the outcrop.

Elva central square and beach promenade

The central square of Elva is closely connected to Lake Arbi, the nature trail that winds around it, the beach, and the beachside recreation area. The central square of Elva and the beach promenade are the heart of the town – green, peaceful places where the lakeside hustle and the natural atmosphere create a true summer or winter vibe. Männikjärv hiking trail

Männikjärv hiking trail offers wonderful views of Lake Männikjärv and the bog surrounding it. The hiking trail enables you to walk through a boreo-nemoral forest; the 2.2 km trail is suitable for a beginner. The trail is marked with red signs on trees, and it takes about 1 hour to complete it.Good to know:- During high water, parts of the bog are impassable.- For staying at Männikjärv, organising a public event for more than 20 people and driving an all-terrain vehicle, you must first apply for a permit from the manager of the protected area – Estonian Environmental Board.
