Carl Schmidt Guesthouse

Kesk tn 4, Põltsamaa vald, Jõgeva maakond, 48105

Carl Schmidt’s House is located in Central Estonia, right in the heart of Põltsamaa, where everything you need is within reach. This means you don’t have to worry too much about packing your travel bag.
In this old house, not everything is like in a modern glass hotel. It is a historic hotel where you can smell the wood, the walls breathe, grandma’s lace doilies adorn the tables, ventilation systems don’t hum, and sometimes the walls talk instead… It has been a post office, a secondary school, a hospital, and in the 1960s, it was also a hotel.
On the first floor, a cozy café-restaurant, a reception desk, and a hair salon await you. On the second and third floors, there are rooms in three price categories.
Additionally, the complex includes the Hullava Naise Pub next to the guesthouse. The unique name and the surrounding imagination are topics of conversation among locals. The pub’s menu offers homemade dishes, including daily specials and soups that satisfy even the biggest appetite.
Visit Põltsamaa, the pearl of Livonia — a town of history, roses, and wine!

Mustjärve hiking trail

A beautiful bog lake hides in the shade of a pine forest in the northern part of the Lulli bog next to Lake Võrtsjärv. The natural lake is large (23 ha) and very shallow (there is only a metre of water here). The hiking trail starts at the information stand in the car park. Further on, the boardwalk leads directly to the water, which offers scenic views of the lake and the surrounding bog landscape. The short hiking trail (2.3 km) runs around the lake. It is impossible to get lost here, because the trail is circular and everyone finally gets back to the starting point. In the second half of the summer, cloudberries, blueberries, cranberries, and mushrooms can be picked from the surroundings.

Supilinn — Tartu’s historic neighborhood of wooden homes

Supilinn is Tartu's most bohemian district, where 18th-century wooden houses, courtyards awash in urban greenery, and the banks of the Emajõgi River create an unparalleled atmosphere. It combines the best of city living with a natural environment, where you can feel the community spirit and local creativity. Go for a walk in Supilinn on the beautiful promenade along the Emajõgi River, where century-old trees and a tranquil frog pond give the city a breath of fresh air. Street art, colorful courtyards, and wooden houses tell Supilinn's story, which is best experienced during the spring Supilinn Days, when courtyards and gardens open to guests and the entire district turns into a large festival. The best way to explore Supilin is on foot or by bike, so you can notice hidden corners, shutter patterns, and backyard gardens. A walk with a local guide can reveal hidden layers of the district and highlight its bohemian spirit. More information about guided tours can be found on the Tartu Guides page.

Tamme-Lauri oak – Estonia’s largest oak tree

The Tamme-Lauri oak is Estonia's largest oak tree. It has a circumference of 8 m (measured at a height of 130 cm) and is approximately 800 years old. The trunk has been filled with reinforced concrete. The Tamme-Lauri oak was named after Laurits, the god of fire, who was said to live in the oak and bring misfortune, but also sometimes good to the surrounding farms. The farm located near the oak is also known as Tamme-Lauri. The Tamme-Lauri oak was featured on the back of the Estonian ten kroon banknote. Signs leading to the site of the oak tree are found along the Urvaste-Kanepi highway.
