Located at the Estonian Agricultural Museum in Ülenurme, the MUHK, or the Rural Curiosity Center, is a lively place where visitors of all ages can discover, research, and play. This is where rural life comes to play through engaging education. Located on two floors, the center introduces modern agriculture through practical activities. The “Barn Symphony” exhibition explores topics related to animal welfare, feeding, and husbandry. You can also meet the museum's farm animals and relax in a soothing rabbit village. The exhibition “Manure and Milk” adds to the excitement, where you can also see a rare manure spreader. For the more adventurous, the slightly gut-wrenching veterinary room takes a look at the history of animal treatment. The museum’s treasury, or open storage, also awaits visitors, where fascinating objects from the museum’s collections are on display. The Estonian Rural Museum ticket gives you access to all museums in the complex, including the Rural Curiosity Center.
HollyFood is a cosy and unique place to eat on the Tallinna–Tartu highway, under the Estonian Hollywood Hill. Our menu has something for everyone. HollyFood is a fun place to stay for young guests as well – we have a children's menu, a children's corner, and a baby changing mat. The extensive menu includes nutritious roasts (including daily specials), healthy salads, craft burgers, and vegetarian dishes. All dishes are freshly prepared on site. We cook grilled dishes on the Big Green Egg charcoal grill. HollyFood also offers a catering service for events and you can also order take-away.
The historical Palamuse Parish Schoolhouse is now open to visitors as it was seen in 1895. There, you will find the classroom and the living rooms of the parish clerk, known from the movie Kevade. The heart of the museum is located in the freshly completed main building, where you will also find a classroom and a workshop. The main exhibition of the main building is meant for the whole family, reflecting the history of the Estonian parish schools through Kevade. The text introducing the entire building seems to have been written by the character Toots from the movie: you can learn to play the violin, catch Lati Pac, and see what Toots was hiding in his pockets! You can also learn how the movie Kevade was made and how it affected the Estonian culture.
Kalevipoeg's Home has an enormous sledding hill where you can go sledding every winter. But now there is also a separate track for tubes. We have the best snow tubes in the world, straight from Canada. We have 10 of them and we rent them out by the hour. We don't have a ski lift but you can walk back up the hill from the side of the track. A little physical exercise and then you can go down the hill again. Suitable from the age of 4.After tubing, you can visit the Kalevipoeg Museum, the playground or, if you have any energy left, go ice skating. Astri Arena is the largest and most modern indoor ice rink in Southern Estonia, and the only ice rink open all year round in the entire region. The Fairy Trail, also known as the Vitipalu Adventure Trail, offers a fairytale experience for both children and adults. The trail takes you through the mushroom and berry forests of Elva, where Witch Island awaits, featuring the lovely "Little Witch" house, cool tree sculptures, and a low-adventure trail built in the middle of the forest, perfect for children and families to have a great time in nature. The 1.4 km long trail, part of which is accessible with a stroller, intersects with the Elva River's primeval valley hiking trail and introduces the diverse landscape of Elva. The trail starts and ends at the RMK Jõeharu picnic area and camping site, where several shelters with grills and campfire sites are available.
Jõesuu Home Accommodation is located in the southern end of Lake Võrtsjärv in a private, scenic location by the Purtsi River. The first floor of the house has accommodation rooms of different sizes and comfort levels, a kitchen, and a fireplace hall. Alaveski Animal Park offers an opportunity for observing animals in their natural environment. The fauna of the animal park is very diverse; there are 90 different animals and 28 pheasants living in the Alaveski farm. Here you can meet two bear cubs, Mõmsik and Harry as well as squirrels, foxes, deer and wild boars who were the first inhabitants in the park. In cooperation with our partners you can go canoeing, roast game on the grill or hunt for pheasants during the hunting season.
