Võõpsu Orthodox Village Chapel

Silla tn 3, Setomaa vald, Võru maakond, 64318

Võõpsu’s village chapel, is located right next to Setomaa’s northern gate — the bridge over the Võhandu River — in a medieval village cemetery. This is the Estonian part of Setomaa’s largest wooden tsässon, which some believe originally served as a barn. It was remodeled into a tsässon a little before the middle of the 18th century and properly renovated in 2010. Of architectural interest is the large, open front hall, which partially covers the side walls. The patron saint of Võõpsu tsässon is St. Nicholas (Seto: Püha Migul) and its name days are the spring and winter St. Nicholas days (migulapäiv).

Truffle workshop at Mulgi Experience Center

Let's make delicious kama truffles together! Kama is often considered one of Estonia's national dishes. In the workshop, we roast kama flour, mix it with creamy filling and flavorful additions, and shape it into delightful balls. Then we decorate the kama truffles. Each participant can prepare 6 to 8 truffles to take home. A pleasant and flavorful experience for every participant! We recommend adding a guided tour or a walk in our yard at the Mulgi Experience Center. In the exhibition house, visitors are greeted with interactive solutions that introduce the culture and history of Mulgimaa in an engaging way. After the workshop, you can meet the center's friendly animals, visit the linen barn, and discover how linen fabric was made in the past. The Mulgi Experience Center opens the door to the essence of the Mulgi people and Mulgi cultural heritage. It is an ideal place to spend a pleasant time with friends or colleagues. Write to us about your wishes and ideas, and we will find the most suitable solution for you.

Unique boat “Augupill” with a heatable cabin for camping, fishing, and overnight stay

"Augupill" is a handmade camping boat from the Soviet times. The spacious, stable, and easy-to-steer 6-metre boat is powered by a modern, economical engine controlled by the steering wheel. No driver's license is needed to steer the boat. A 1.6x2m bed surrounded by a mosquito net can be made from mattresses on the smooth floor of the heatable cabin. Due to the smooth floor, the boat can also accommodate a wheelchair. The large cabin and high sides keep children in the boat, and the low height from the water line makes fishing comfortable. Memorial to the War of Independence in Valga

This memorial, which is dedicated to the freedom fighters of southern Estonia, represents the figure of an unknown soldier, his sword sheathed, with a flag held aloft in one hand and the other outstretched. The first memorial was unveiled here on 11 October 1925, dedicated to Lieutenant Julius Kuperjanov, but it was destroyed by Soviet forces on the night of 21 September 1940. The new memorial was inaugurated on 16 August 2013 in the original location on Kuperjanov Street. The design and mould of the memorial were made in 1925 by Amandus Adamson, who was also involved in the production of the bronze figure in Italy. This figure was restored to its original size by sculptor Jaak Soans. Restoration of the memorial was led by Major Meelis Kivi.

Kissing Hill (Musumägi)

Locals call the artificial hill on the Toome Hill, in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral, the Kissing Hill. It was built in the 19th century as part of the park’s romantic design over the former Moscow Rondel at Karl XI Bastion. Today, stairs lead to the Kissing Hill and at the top, there is a viewing platform with benches. Next to the Kissing Hill, there is a monument to the poet Kristjan Jaak Peterson, between the sacrificial stone, the hill, and the cathedral. The place has been popular with young couples who take pictures there. There have been open-air performances on and around the Kissing Hill.
