Karlova — a meeting place for architecture enthusiasts and bohemians

Karlova is a neighborhood in Tartu that captivates visitors with its bohemian atmosphere. In Tartu's Karlova district, there are historical wooden houses, secret courtyards worth discovering, unique cafés loved by locals, greenery, and plenty of street art. In the heart of Karlova are several important community places – the cozy Karlova Kohv, the popular meeting spot Barlova Bar, and the Karlova Harbor area by the Emajõgi River, suitable for more peaceful leisure. The neighborhood dates back to the houses built on the lands of Karlova Manor in the 19th–20th centuries, which have developed into today's unique living environment. The oldest settlement, at the beginning of Kalevi Street, dates back to the 18th century and architecturally differs from the rest of the area. In spring, Karlova Days take place, where you can get to know the neighborhood even better through various events and open courtyards. Exploring the neighborhood with a guide will show you Karlova's hidden side and the historical charm of its bohemian wooden houses. More information can be found on the Tartu Guides website.

Mesi Tare honey workshop

How many bees are needed to make one kilo of honey? Does honey always taste the same? How do bees communicate with each other, and how fast do bees fly? How many flowers does a bee visit during a foraging flight? Your questions will be answered at the unique Mesi Tare honey workshop on the Onion Route. We will taste honey and learn how to distinguish between fake honey and real honey! We will discuss how each of us can help protect bees and what threats they face. We will also drink a nice cup of tea, as is the custom of the Old Believers, and explore the impressive samovar collection at the Samovar House. Come and have a treat with your friends and family!

Kicksledge trips to the Uninhabited Island

The uninhabited Salosaar is one of the 30 islands of Lake Peipsi. There used to be a farm, a restaurant with a dance floor and a windmill on the island but these were destroyed in different wars. The defence line that the Germans built during WWII but never used has also collapsed. At the moment, the island does not have any inhabitants; the only 'vacationers' are cormorants. The nests of these apt fishermen can be seen everywhere in the trees.Length of the hike: 7 km and 2.5–3 hoursGroup size: minimum 10 peoplePrice: €20 per adult, €12 per childNB! As we will be hiking in the near vicinity of Russia, you need to bring an ID.
