Kivitalu Restaurant Rock Summer

Otepää vald, Valga maakond, 67408

Kivitalu Restaurant Rock Summer is known for its delicious and fresh meals, made with love from ingredients from our farm. You can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake and eat the meat of Kivitalu sheep, as well as pancakes and omelettes made from eggs from our own chicken. We grow potatoes, beetroot, carrots, cucumbers, pumpkins, salads, herbs, garlic, and onions here. Other raw ingredients come from South-Estonian farmers.
The restaurant was named after Rock Summer festivals, which were held at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds – our chef Jüri Makarov used to organise them.

Kicksledge trips to the Uninhabited Island

The uninhabited Salosaar is one of the 30 islands of Lake Peipsi. There used to be a farm, a restaurant with a dance floor and a windmill on the island but these were destroyed in different wars. The defence line that the Germans built during WWII but never used has also collapsed. At the moment, the island does not have any inhabitants; the only 'vacationers' are cormorants. The nests of these apt fishermen can be seen everywhere in the trees.Length of the hike: 7 km and 2.5–3 hoursGroup size: minimum 10 peoplePrice: €20 per adult, €12 per childNB! As we will be hiking in the near vicinity of Russia, you need to bring an ID.

Sculpture of Oscar Wilde and Eduard Vilde

A sculpture created in Tartu's Old Town in 1999 depicts a fun speculation about the history of literature. Sitting on a bench are contemporaries and namesakes, or the two Wildes: Irish-born writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) and Estonian writer Eduard Vilde (1865-1933). Sculptor Tiiu Kirsipuu, who modeled the figures of the writers based on photographs, has noted that when creating the twin figures, she had in mind the year 1890, when the two Wildes could have really met each other and had a few witty words. The sculpture symbolizes friendship and intercultural dialogue. The sculpture of the two writers is located in front of the former Mattiesen printing house, one of Tartu's architectural monuments, which now houses the wine and art restaurant Vilde ja Vine. The statue is a beloved landmark among both locals and visitors. Sitting on the bench next to the writers allows you to take nice pictures as a souvenir of your visit to Tartu. In 2004, a copy of the sculpture was also donated to the city of Galway in Ireland, where the paternal family of literary classic Oscar Wilde came from.
