Tartu Angel Bridge

Tartu's Gothic-style St. John's Church dates back to the 14th century, making it one of the oldest churches in Estonia. It is known for its unique terracotta sculptures, which are considered rare in all of Europe. The church once had over 1,000 handmade terracotta statues; about 200 have survived. Each sculpture is different, which has led to speculation that they may depict Tartu's former inhabitants or other important people. The tower of St. John's Church offers a wonderful view of the entire historic old town of Tartu. It houses two bronze bells, called Peter and Paul. On the last Sunday of every month, the church holds a service in English!

Cyanotype is the process by which an image is produced to fabric by the combination of chemicals and UV light. The result is an image with white lines on a blue background. Make an exciting gift and produce a photo, drawing, or silhouette of a dried plant on a T-shirt or a cloth bag. Fabrics with a thinner texture which have been washed without conditioner and ironed beforehand are suitable for this. It is also possible to buy a cloth bag on site.If you want to produce a photo, send it to us in digital form no later than one day before the workshop. We will help you with the rest.

Construction of the Laiuse fortress was launched by the Livonian Order in the late 14th century to defend its eastern borders. The first defensive structure in Estonia to be fitted with firearms, it gained its definitive appearance in the late Middle Ages. Cannon towers were added to the fortress in the mid-15th century. The fortress crumbled in 1559 but was restored, with wooden barracks built at the end of the Swedish era, which accommodated Karl XII and his entourage from 1700–1701. After the Great Northern War the fortress lay in ruins.

The Peipsi County Museum introduces the life of the Old Believers, the kitchen and church culture, and the life and work of the world-famous icon painter Pimen Sofronov from the local village of Tiheda. Samovars, "podrushniks", icons, "lestovkas" are worth seeing. You can buy souvenirs and handicrafts related to the culture and nature of Peipsi, as well as sweets, tea mixtures and other local products. A guided tour introducing the Old Believers and the Ivan Chai tea ceremony can be booked in advance. With a museum ticket, you can also visit the Peipsi Järve Elu room with a permanent exhibition located next door.

The beautiful Luua Manor is home to the museum rooms of Luua Forestry School, which showcase the history of both the school and the manor. A number of the rooms in the manor have been restored to their original state and opened up to visitors. Here you can admire the timeless beauty of the manor, find out about the history of its park and the surrounding area and take a look at awards and old school documents. The monument to Oskar Luts was erected in 1987. The authors of the monument were A. Rimm and A. Murdmaa.Oskar Luts (1887–1953) was an Estonian writer. His best known and loved novel is Kevade (Spring), a lyrical and humorous tale based on school memories. He has also written plays, children’s stories, memoirs, and feuilletons. The writer's house museum is located at 38 Riia Street in Tartu. There, he lived for the last 17 years of his life. Oskar Luts was buried in the St Paul’s Cemetery in Tartu.

The Turusild bridge connecting Tartu's outdoor market and Annelinn district was completed in 2003 and is meant only for pedestrians. You can also ride a bicycle or a small moped on the separated section. The length of the bridge is 251.5 metres and the hanging part is carried by seven pairs of stay wires. The height of the bridge from the water surface of the Emajõgi River is 7.5 metres.At the top of the bridge there is a 3.5 m high weather vane – a cog called Lennuk (Plane). The author of the weather vane is blacksmith Ivar Feldmann.The bridge was designed by OÜ Tartu Arhitektuuribüroo and K-Most, built by K-Most.In 2003, the bridge was awarded the title of the Deed of the Year by the citizens of the city of Tartu.

On the grounds of Taagepera Castle, a unique "Alice in Wonderland" theme park is open in the summer. You can enjoy thousands of flowers, a colorful magic forest, themed sculptures, and giant installations inspired by the world-famous fairytale. The park offers lots to discover for both children and adults. The 40-meter tower of the castle will be a favorite place for visitors, as each floor of the tower tells its own story.
