Estonian flagstaff in Otepää

Otepää vald, Valga maakond, 67405

The Estonian blue-black-and-white national flag waves in the highest flagstaff in Estonia – on the renewed Central Square in the centre of Otepää. The flag was hoisted on a 20-metre flagstaff on the National Flag Day on 4 June 2009, when 125 years passed from the day when the first blue-black-and-white flag was commemorated and consecrated. Next to the flag are information stands with the story of the Estonian flag, and in the nearby Community Garden, you can learn exciting facts about the history of Otepää.The flag consecrated on 4 June 1884 was initially the flag of Estonian University Students, then the Estonian national flag, and when the Republic of Estonia was established, blue, black, and white were declared the national colours.

Mats Erdell Chapel in Ala Cemetery

Ala Cemetery is not far from Taagepera and the chapel of the first Estonian squire Mats Eredell is located in its southern end. It is also the resting place of Mats’s wife Kärt, son Friedrich Bernhard and another descendant of Mats. Mats Eredell was the owner of the Sõnni Farm in Taagepera. One of his descendants, Hans Erdell, bought the Roobe Manor in 1868. It was one of earliest purchases of its kind in the history of Livonia.Interesting facts: Mats Erdell (1792-1847) was the first Estonian squire.

Leather keychain workshop

In the leather studio workshop, you can make a personalised keychain under the guidance of the leather designer Tiina Andron. Different metal studs, leathers, rivets, and key rings are used. The workshop is suitable for everyone (from school age). Terminal Oil Annikoru Disc Golf Park powered by DiscSport

Terminal Oil Annikoru Disc Golf Park has 18 courses of different lengths, which are suitable for both skilled players as well as beginners. The 2.0 km long winding course is located in a picturesque pine forest.Disc rental is not available on site. Discs can be rented from Nõo Sports Hall on the basis of the price list or from the Tartu Festival Arena information desk based on the price list by presenting an identity document. Discs can be rented at the Tartu Festival Arena from Monday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The discs must be returned to the information desk no later than 8 p.m. on the same day.Terminal Oil Annikoru disc golf park powered by DiscSport is CLOSED during the winter period.

Monument to cold weather in Jõgeva

A monument to cold weather has been erected on the Piibe road on the outskirts of Jõgeva, where the lowest ever temperature in Estonia (-43.5*C) was recorded in 1940. The monument also highlights the most recent record of -37.6*C from 2003, also recorded in Jõgeva.

Kassinurme Hillfort and Sacred Grove

The Kassinurme ancient area was established 1.5 thousand years ago. The sacred grove was discovered when the settlement was established, and it is one of the oldest sacred places in Estonia. A fragment of the ancient fort has been restored. At present the sacred grove is the favourite place for history enthusiasts who organise ancient war games there, revive old folk customs, and celebrate folk calendar holidays. The health trail lets visitors see the varied nature of the region and enjoy beautiful surface forms.

Nõo Holy Trinity Church of the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church

There is a remarkable historicist Orthodox church with quarrystone and brick walls and five onion-cupolas in Nõo small borough.The Nõo Congregation was founded in 1852 for Estonian Orthodox Christians who previously belonged to the Tartu Georgi congregation. The architecturally remarkable church is made of quarrystone and red bricks and has a bell-tower in the western side. It was completed in 1873. The interior architecture of the church is simple and the iconostasis dates back to the late 19th century.Services are held in the Holy Trinity Church in Nõo on the second Saturday of each month.

Catherine II Sculpture and Catherine Alley (Katariina allee)

The sculpture of Russian Empress Catherine II (sculptor Jaak Soans) was installed on the renovated Catherine Alley in 2014.The city of Võru was established as the centre of the newly created county under the new Provincial Governance Law of 1784. Catherine II personally gave a number of orders for the founding of a new city and affirmed the coat of arms of the city. The avenue from the first house of Võru town, the main building of the manor belonging to von Mengdens (Võru upper secondary school) to Lake Tamula, is shown on very early maps of Võru city. Catherine Alley connects the city's central square with Kreutzwald Park and Tamula Lake's promenade.
