Kakulaane smoke sauna

The largest smoke sauna in Southern Estonia awaits guests on the shore of the pond of Kakulaane Tourist Farm.We heat the sauna with alder for 5–8 hours, depending on the weather and the number of guests. Hot smoke cleans the air and the hot air in the smoke sauna is very healing. When the heating is complete, the sauna is ventilated, and some water is thrown onto the heater to get rid of the excess smoke. After the sauna, you can go for a refreshing swim in the pond in summer. In winter, you can jump into the snow or an ice hole. While in Estonia, you must go to a smoke sauna at least once!

Meelega Metsa forest immersion trips in South Estonia

Dear traveler, join us at Meelega Metsa!Guided forest bathing offers you the opportunity to take a break and encourages you to be present in the moment. Forest bathing helps you notice what you usually don't and supports the sense of presence. It's a special opportunity to see and perceive the Estonian forest from a different perspective. During the forest bathing journey, you will experience the forest through your five senses, have the chance to look both outward and inward, cultivate a greater sense of well-being, and gift yourself with greater physical ease and mental balance. Being in contact with nature, we feel how something inside us settles again. We conclude the journey together around the campfire, enjoying warm drinks and forest-inspired flavors. The journey is conducted with care and attention by Helen and Anneli, who have trained as forest bathing guides in Japan. Each forest bathing journey is unique and adapts to the participants and the forest. Are you ready to go to the forest and meet yourself there?

Monument to Stefan Batory

In 1562, Walk (the old name of present-day Valga) along with the rest of Livonia was handed over to Poland as part of the ceasefire agreement of the Livonian War. The city rights of Valga were signed by Polish King Stefan Batory on June 11, 1584, based on his colonization policy. The king believed that land should be granted as hereditary property to new Catholic settlers (peasants, craftsmen, merchants) in Livonia and thereby strengthen Catholicism in Livonia. Therefore, there is a monument dedicated to Stefan Batory on Kesk Avenue in Valga, which was completed in 2002 as a joint effort of the city of Valga, and the Hungarian and Polish embassies.

Hellenurme Watermill Museum’s workshop “From Water to Bread”

Between Hellenurme, Elva, and Otepää, there is a unique opportunity to see Estonia's last historical water-powered flour and grist mill in operation – the Hellenurme Water Mill. Upon arrival, we explore the mill building and views over the mill pond to Hellenurme Manor, then we open the turbine, and the mill begins to work, powered by water. Through the mill's four floors, you can see, touch, and feel the power of the mill, and soon fresh flour and grist fall into the bag as in the old days. In the bread house, you can try breadmaking under the guidance of the Mill Mistress, honoring traditions and telling stories about bread and the wisdom of ancestors. In the bread trough, dough is kneaded from sourdough. Each guest molds their own little loaf from a dough ball, which the Mill Mistress throws into the large bread oven with an old bread peel. Soon, the bread house fills with the smell of bread, and each guest can take their loaf from the oven, which tastes warm and buttery like an unforgettable dessert! As writer Juhan Liiv wrote: "... warm bread – imagine!"
