The long-serving professor of the University of Tartu was one of the brightest scientists in 20th century Tartu. Lotman studied the history of Russian literature and culture and general regularities of culture. He laid the foundation of cultural semiotics and was the founder of the Tartu-Moscow school of semiotics. The monument to the world-famous culturologist and semiotician, which consists of pipes, water and light, was opened on 6 October 2007. The idea for the sculpture made of 15 m of steel pipe is based on the self-portrait of Juri Lotman. Authors of the monument: Mati Karmin, architect Andres Lunge.

Kaldemäe Hostel is located between the hills and slopes of beautiful Haanjamaa and it is an ideal place if you wish to have an active holiday in nature, breathe clean air and be away from city noise. The territory of Kaldemäe Farm is large and wide; there is a big pond in front of the sauna where you can enjoy water delights, and a village-style swing for children.There's also a fireplace hall that seats 40 people, that is a perfect place for birthdays and smaller parties. The sights and leisure time possibilities of Haanjamaa are only one and a half kilometres from Kaldemäe Farm: you can go for a hike on Mountain Suur Munamägi or find an activity at the Haanja Holiday and Sports Centre.

Come and dine at Väimela Bistro!There are 100 seats in the hall. Guests can rent the cosily decorated hall and order a party table together with a pleasant service or just rooms for a seminar. The two halls seat up to 150. We provide catering services for up to 400 people. Guests can also order breakfast or dinner. There's free WiFi and a bathroom for the disabled in the Bistro.You can also order delicatessens and pastry.

A kicksledding trip through Taevaskoja in South Estonia will take you to a true winter wonderland! The trip runs along the ancient valley of the Ahja River, past the Taevaskoja sandstone outcrops, through enchanting snowy forests, and past the beautiful, crisp Ahja River. The tour guide will tell exciting stories about nature and Taevaskoda and offer hot tea to warm you up. Parents and children are also welcome on the trip; the littlest ones can ride on the seats in front of the sleds. The trip is suitable for solo adventurers, families, and larger groups. Tavern ‘Lühikeste meeste kõrts’ can accommodate about 50 women and men, but mind your head when you enter the room. Our meals are homemade and popular across the village. Tomato, cucumber, and other vegetables are local, as are eggs and fish. Drinks are not local, but they are still excellent. The tavern is suitable for various events. Upon pre-booking, we also offer group catering, where several dishes are traditional. You can also order catering and an evening host from us.

A monument to cold weather has been erected on the Piibe road on the outskirts of Jõgeva, where the lowest ever temperature in Estonia (-43.5*C) was recorded in 1940. The monument also highlights the most recent record of -37.6*C from 2003, also recorded in Jõgeva.

Kütiorg, located in the northern part of Haanja Nature Park, is the largest and most powerful valley in Estonia. The historical Hunters Hill Mill is located here.The mill was built in 1868 and it was last used in the autumn of 2016. It is planned to preserve the mill as industrial heritage of Estonia. The mill is near Noodasküla in Haanja Nature Park. You can walk to the mill if you take the longer trail on the RMK Kütiorg hiking trail.
