The monument to the physician who studied and became a professor in Tartu was completed in 1952. The authors of the monument are J Raudsepp, A Mölder, P Tarvas, A Volberg.Nikolai Pirogov was the founder of experimental surgery, topographic anatomy and field surgery. His work made the surgeries performed in Tartu famous all over Russia and also abroad.

Vastseliina Episcopal Castle is a place worth discovering in South Estonia for its 14th-century castle ruins, interactive activities, and interesting history as a sacred site. In the Middle Ages, the castle was a famous pilgrimage destination: by order of Pope Innocent VI, pilgrims who saw the miraculous cross in the castle chapel received a release from penance activities imposed on them for 1 year and 40 days. During the Northern War, the castle was destroyed by Peter I's troops, and only its ruins remain. The sacred pilgrimage site on the ruins of the former church is marked by a large cross, benches, and a sound installation featuring spiritual music. Nowadays, you can also visit the Vastseliina Episcopal Castle Medieval Experience Center and the Episcopal Castle Pilgrimage House. The castle ruins, sacred site, and experience center can be visited independently or with a guide upon prior arrangement. Additionally, refreshments and medieval feasts for groups are offered at the former Piiri Tavern.

Then come to Võru County to a fir forest by the RMK Pähni Nature Centre where you'll find forest megaphones – three gigantic wooden megaphones with a diameter of three metres, each named Ruup.Ruup invites you to read forest sounds and offers hikers a possibility to rest their feet and their minds. Here, you can sit, sleep, think and listen. You can select between a small and a large view, depending on which direction you look in the Ruup. Ruup is an open library with only one book – the nature.

The length and terrain of the trail make it suitable for moderate training or leisurely enjoying the nature. The trail with its ups and downs runs along winding forest paths and straight forest rides, passing through different forest communities.The trail is 30 km long. It starts and ends at the Kukemetsa forest hut. The trail is marked with signs and runs along forest roads to the north.The best recreation sites along the trail are the forests, Selgise hills, Kukemetsa forest hut, which is approximately 500 m off the trail, and Kärgandi campfire site. The trail was built by the State Forest Management Centre.
