Helme Parish Museum

Boat trips to Lake Peipsi on the historical ship Arabella I

Boat trips on Lake Peipsi take you to Estonia's largest lake aboard the historic cruise ship Arabella I. Built in 1922 and recently fully renovated, Arabella I is the oldest ship in use in Estonia. Karula National Park and the visitor centre by the Lake Ähijärv

Karula National Park is Estonia's smallest national park, characterized by a hilly landscape rich in lakes, with 60 lakes on the highland. The national park is open to everyone: families, backpackers, and nature enthusiasts, offering various opportunities for relaxation and hiking. At the visitor center located by Lake Ähijärv, you can get information about the opportunities available in the national park, and the permanent exhibition there introduces the history, nature, folk culture of the Karula region, as well as the modern lifestyle. The heart of the national park is Lake Ähijärv, which is ideal for boating, swimming, and enjoying nature. Hiking enthusiasts are awaited by well-maintained trails that lead through forests, wooded meadows, and hilly landscapes, offering views unique to Karula. Popular destinations include the Rebäse hiking trail, Lüllemäe observation tower, and Kaika hillocks, which offer a great view of the rolling landscape. The national park has plenty of camping and bonfire sites, as well as natural swimming spots, making it suitable for both day trips and longer vacations.

Sadama Recreation Area

Sadama Recreation Area is a great place in Setomaa, on the shore of Värska Bay. The beautiful location allows guests to visit nearby forests to pick mushrooms and berries and take a refreshing swim in the lake on hot summer days.There are four cabins in the recreation area, which accommodate a total of 15 people. All guests can also use a shower. There is a sandbox, swings, and a slide for your children. We also have a ball court and boat rental.In addition to cabins, there is a large camping site, barbeque equipment, and a shelter.Come and relax!

Siksälä Holiday Home, Granary of Conciliation (Leppimise Ait)

The Granary of Conciliation at Siksälä is located in the middle of forests and lakes, next to Lake Sika in the Vesiveski complex in Misso Parish in Võru County. The place is private – the closest urbanized area is 3.5 km away, and the neighbours include beavers, deer, wild boards, and a lot of birds. The granary is located 30 m from the Vesiveski Holiday Home, next to the Siksälä stream, and there may be guests staying at the Holiday Home.The timber granary was completed in August 2016 and it has a roof made of shingles. There is a wide double bed, a fireplace, a table, and chairs. Washing facilities and the toilet are located outside. Visitors can use a campfire site, rent a boat at Lake Sika and Lake Mustjärv, and rent a lakeside sauna for an extra charge.

The positive feedback from the visitors made the host so happy that they decided to offer taste experiences more than once a year.Cafe Johanna offers a variety of flavours: morning coffee with delicious pastry, with a selection of the best rolled biscuit in town, wind pockets and eclairs, and of course, Pavlova cakes. Põltsamaa Castle

Põltsamaa Castle has been an important site throughout the centuries and carries a distinguished history – founded in 1272 on the riverbank, it was the residence of Magnus, the King of Livonia, and later evolved into a magnificent Rococo palace. Wars and fires left the castle in ruins, but now it has come back to life and is waiting for you to visit! Today, the castle offers visitors plenty of excitement. First and foremost, it is worth climbing to the viewing platform of the seven-story castle tower, where a captivating view of the city unfolds in every season. The tower is crowned by a restored historical dome, which is unique in all of Estonia. The church, located within the complex, is built directly into the castle's fortification walls and tower, and is open daily during the summer. The convent and gatehouse feature a modern exhibition that tells the colorful story of the castle and the town of Põltsamaa. In the castle courtyard, craft workshops await, where you can watch the work of masters or purchase something interesting yourself.
