The monument to soldiers who fell in the War of Independence stands on a hill in front of Otepää Maarja Church and it is remarkable because it was hidden underground for 30 years. The monument was reopened in 1989 after renovation. The top part of the monument bears the words HONOUR THE FALLEN and a list of 22 names. The granite piece with the full list has been lost. The metal decorations were created at the initiative of sculptor Jüri Ojaver.Interesting facts: The initial monument was designed by Voldemar Melnik and made by stonemason Peeter Veeber. The monument was opened for the first time on 10 June 1928.

Every autumn, the Tartu Bike Marathon brings thousands of sports enthusiasts to Southern Estonia, but completing the marathon distance requires practice. The 86 km long track of the Tartu Bike Marathon starts from the stadium of the Tehvandi Sports Center in Otepää and ends in Elva at the Tartumaa Health Sports Center. The track is technically undemanding and largely follows the famous Tartu Marathon route. Signage with kilometer markings is available for movement in both directions. The Tartu Rattamaraton track is designed for both hiking and athletic training. The track primarily runs on forest roads and smaller gravel roads and is suitable for a range of bicycles. The diverse landscape of the Otepää Nature Park and countless lakes offer not only physical exertion but also visual beauty and mental refreshment, and why not take a stretching break at the Harimäe observation tower? Southern Estonia, full of opportunities for active recreation, invites you to explore its landscapes by bike!

Taarka Tarõ Köögikõnõ Cafe is a cozy restaurant in Obinitsa, in the true heart of Setomaa, worth visiting for the authentic atmosphere alone. The Tarõ family, Rieka and Aare Hõrn, are longtime leaders in Setomaa, and through them, guests can experience Seto culture and authentic Seto food. There is also a selection of Finnish-Ugric and Ukrainian meals, and a customer favorite — pancakes. Pastries, pies, bread, and hot drinks can also be bought. Good to know: Catering for groups can be ordered in advance. If you wish, you can order a presentation about Seto culture or a concert by a leelo choir.

Pühaste Kelder, located in the heart of Tartu, is the representative bar of Pühaste Brewery. Here, the freshest IPAs are less than 24 hours old. We also offer experimental beers and if you do not find something from this selection, you can choose from 21 tap beers. The beginning of the story of Pühaste Brewery dates back to 2011 when Eero Mander first began making beer. He received positive feedback from a wide circle of beer lovers. The factory was opened in 2016 and the representative bar in 2018.

The Kalevipoja Museum, located in Jõgeva County, Kääpa, is named after the Estonian national epic "Kalevipoeg". In the nearby river lies the sword of Kalevipoja, and around it lie the resting places, stones, springs and furrows of the ancient sangari. The museum's permanent exhibition gives an overview of the epic, and you can learn about the most important events in a playful way. A scooter: interesting, attractive and definitely worth a try! Our scooters are modern, lightweight, thoughtfully designed and perfect for use on cross-country trails. The hiking trail, winding through the diverse landscape, is peppered with many picturesque sights including the Small and Big Taevaskoda, the Ahja River, Otten Stone Bridge, shooting locations of the hit movie "Viimne reliikvia" (The Last Relic), accompanied by bird songs and whispers of the forest. When exploring the nature on a scooter, you will forget your everyday problems and experience the full beauty and tranquility of nature.This hike, led by a guide, lasts between 2 and 3 hours. Vällamäe 3,3 km long hiking trail offers a unique elevation change in Estonia. Vällamägi is Estonia's second highest hill, covered with ancient forest and steep slopes, with an elevation of 303.9 m above sea level. However, considering the 84 meters measured from the base to the peak, Vällamägi is the highest in relative height in Estonia. The slopes of the hill are very steep in places (incline of 35-40 degrees). Since 1992, Vällamäe forests have been designated as a spruce gene pool reserve. As you move along the trail, steep ascents and descents alternate, offering both a physical challenge and breathtaking views of the ancient forest shelters. The climb to the peak may momentarily make you feel like you've arrived in the mountains, not Haanja. The charm of Vällamäe lies in its primordial silence and touch of nature – you won't find crowded hiking trails here. Each season adds its own character to the trail: in spring, the air is filled with birdsong, in summer you may find berries in the forest, in autumn colorful leaves and an abundance of mushrooms delight the eyes, and in winter the slopes are covered with a dense layer of snow in silence.
