Restaurant of Alatskivi castle

Lossi tn 6, Peipsiääre vald, Tartu maakond, 60201

Alatskivi Manor combines three completely different cultures: the Scottish culture, represented in the architecture of the manor house; Estonia peasants, people living and working in the manor and on the manor’s land; and the German nobility, representing aristocracy and old German habits.
The restaurant offers its visitors a unique combination of three completely different cultures, expressed in the menu, as one would expect of a restaurant. The visitors can also find well-known, classic dishes from our menu.

Räpina Paper Factory

Räpina Paper Factory (originally a paper mill) was completed in 1734, making it the oldest Estonian industrial company to still be in operation. It is also one of the most unique examples of industrial architecture in Europe. The first paper machine arrived in Räpina from Germany in 1873, which was when the mill became a factory. It produced a variety of paper for writing and printing. Three more machines were later introduced to the factory, one of which is still in use - if a little rejigged - today. As a company that cares about the environment, the factory aims to combine contemporary and environmentally friendly production technology with 300 years of production experience.

Helme caves

Located in the manor park of the same name, the Helme caves, are an unrivalled sight in Estonia. Situated to the north of castle ruins, the caves have a white Burtniek layer of sandstone walls standing 3 m high. Unfortunately for cave lovers though, some of the better known caves have already collapsed. Once comprised of seven interlinked chambers, the biggest of which was known as the Church of Moses. Peppered with springs, the caves have a long history; and over the years they have been dug out and used as shelters when needed. Did you know...?: In ancient times the Helme caves were also known locally as the gateway to Hell.Kivialune (under the rocks) was a shelter for Old Estonians during the wars.

Kekkonen hiking track

The Kekkonen hiking track can be used all year round – in summer for hiking, jogging and cycling and in winter for skiing. The track was named after former Finnish president Urho Kaleva Kekkonen, who visited Kääriku. The 15 km track starts from Kääriku stadium and passes through several spots of natural beauty, including Harimägi Hill – one of the highest points in the Otepää Highlands (211.3 m above sea level).
