Sirje Kruusamäe with her family welcomes you at the Toomemäe Farm in the village of Saabolda. The home restaurant Maagõkõnõ (poppy in Estonian) is the result of Sirje’s long-standing dream. When the family bought the farm, it was surrounded by a poppy field. Now, they are used to decorate the walls of the home cafe.The restaurant serves gourmet local good. Our most popular dishes are pike cutlets, warm cottage cheese, and home-made ice cream, but also delicious pies. The hostess Sirje is a multi-time pie champion of the Seto Kingdom Day!The restaurant is also perfect for cooking workshops, birthdays, and other events.
A museum unique in Estonia is located on the main street of Mustvee, founded by Heino Lubi who worked as a scales maker for more than 30 years. The collection includes over 120 various scales, about 50 steelyards, a great number of metal and ceramic weights and other things related to scales.In addition to scales made in Estonia, Heino Lubi's collection also features scales made in the Soviet Union and Poland. The museum also displays several contemporary scales which help to understand the history of scales.Guided tours must be pre-booked!
The uninhabited Salosaar is one of the 30 islands of Lake Peipsi. There used to be a farm, a restaurant with a dance floor and a windmill on the island but these were destroyed in different wars. The defence line that the Germans built during WWII but never used has also collapsed. At the moment, the island does not have any inhabitants; the only 'vacationers' are cormorants. The Baltic Forest Trail is a hiking trail over 2,000 km long running through the Baltic States, of which 720 km are available for hiking in Estonia. The trail is divided into 50 one-day sections, each approximately 20 km long and marked with signposts. The trail sections have different difficulty levels so everyone can choose the most suitable one for themselves! The hiking trail passes through forested areas and two national parks, Lahemaa and Alustaguse National Parks. Along the way, you can observe trees of different species and places connected to historical events or legends. The trail is well-suited for bird and animal watching. The Baltic Forest Trail is part of the international European long-distance trail E11.
