This question is answered by Mesi Tare's host, Marko, who takes guests on a walking tour through the historic village of Varnja. This is not a regular excursion but a personal, direct experience in which the village, its people, and their stories unfold through the eyes of a local resident. Marko has been connected to Peipsiveere all his life, and his stories are based on real experiences. He has worked as a border guard, been a fisherman and boat captain, and today he operates as a tourism entrepreneur. During the tour, Marko discusses the customs, architecture, and lifestyle of the Old Believers, as well as the importance of Lake Peipus for the local community. Walking tours are arranged by prior reservation and tailored to visitors' interests and schedules. In addition to Varnja village, you can explore Kolkja village and Kallaste town, each with its own character and story. If desired, the tour can be combined with a visit to the Varnja Samovar House.

Contact Konstantin, the owner of Kostja Onion Farm, when the onions are starting to ripen. You can buy any variety and quantity of onions and onion garlands from him. You can also buy mouth-watering onion pies, which must be ordered in advance. They are worth it! For those interested in onion cultivation, Kostja offers a guided tour (in Estonian, German, and Russian), during which he introduces the traditional onion-growing methods of the Old Believers and modern tips for growing onions in your garden. The farm also offers onion wreath weaving workshops.

Villa Tammekann is an architectural landmark, where the Granö Centre of the University of Turku and Tartu operates.The world-famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto designed the building as the home of August Tammekann, Professor of Geography at the University of Tartu. The University of Turku Foundation bought the house from the children of Tammekann in 1998, and then the building was overhauled mainly in accordance with the drawings of Alvar and Aino Aalto. The overhaul was recognised with the Europa Nostra Prize in 2001.The house is part of the National Register of Cultural Monuments and the international IconicHouses network.Groups must book a time to visit the house.

The big beautiful prayer house in Varnja Village on the shores of Lake Peipus was funded and built by the congregation itself. Most of the many icons of the prayer house date back to the start of the 20th century.Visitors can only enter the church with a reservation.The cost of a single visit for a group starts from 50 euros. Visitors get an interesting overview of the life and history of the Old Believers from a local guide who is also an Old Believer. The excursion may last for about an hour - the visit and a warm experience are worth it!Reminder: Women are asked to enter the prayer house with a covered head.We ask you not to take photos or videos in the prayer house.

The wetlands, bogs, and forests of the Peipsiveere Nature Reserve are rich in berries and mushrooms, and picking them has always been a summer tradition for Estonians. Led by an experienced guide with a forager's soul, we will hike to places where you can find Estonian nature's top delicacies, like blueberries and cranberries. We will learn how to find these berry and mushroom spots, what to pick, what to leave in the forest, and how to preserve berries and mushrooms for the winter. The trips take place from mid-July to mid-October. At the end of the trip, we will prepare a delicious dish from the natural products we have picked over a campfire in the forest. The museum is located on the first floor of Alatskivi Castle and provides an overview of the life and work of one of Estonia's most famous composers – Eduard Tubin. The exhibition introduces other well-known musicians who studied with Tubin in Tartu under the guidance of Heino Eller – the so-called School of Tartu. At the museum, you can see and hear Tubin's manuscripts, recordings, and books. In addition, you are introduced to those who have interpreted his music and displayed musical instruments, records, and theatre programmes connected to Tubin. You can also look at and watch photos and films created by the composer.You can enter the museum with a ticket to Alatskivi Castle, and it is also possible to order a guide as an additional service.

Tartu Toy Museum, situated in the Old Town of Tartu, takes adults back to the brighter days of their childhood and offers children plenty of interesting things to see and do.The permanent exhibition displays toys that Estonian children have played with throughout the years. Artist-made dolls, souvenir dolls of different nations, and Finno-Ugric traditional toys are also exhibited. Playrooms and workshops are also open. You can see puppets from Estonian puppet films and temporary exhibitions in the outbuilding. The museum also has a theatre building named ’Teatri kodu’ (The Home of Theatre) with a theatre hall, a museum of puppets, and a children’s studio.
