Tartu City Museum

The museum introduces the life led by farmers in the 18th century and the everyday lives and work of our forefathers. There are five oak sculptures created by St Petersburg artist Grigori Azarenkov by the museum. The museum is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, which make it a popular venue for folk parties and theatre performances.

Anna Haava (1864–1957) was an Estonian poet, librettist, and translator who was born on Haavakivi Farm in Pala Parish, Tartu County.The memorial room located in the Kodavere Heritage Centre exhibits photographs of the poet and her relatives, along with a family tree, poetry collections and translations, memorabilia, parts of Anna Haava's correspondence, copies of documents, and a model of Haavakivi Farm.

You are invited to Obinitsa Museum to dress up! The Seto culture workshop "Putting on Seto clothes" is about putting on Seto women's clothes. One member of the company or group will put on the garments. While dressing, the guide will tell you how a Seto woman and man should dress according to tradition, including how to distinguish a married woman from an unmarried girl. The historical context and significance of the objects in Seto culture will also be presented. Come and learn about Seto folk costumes and history!

The Peipsi County Museum introduces the life of the Old Believers, the kitchen and church culture, and the life and work of the world-famous icon painter Pimen Sofronov from the local village of Tiheda. Samovars, "podrushniks", icons, "lestovkas" are worth seeing. You can buy souvenirs and handicrafts related to the culture and nature of Peipsi, as well as sweets, tea mixtures and other local products. A guided tour introducing the Old Believers and the Ivan Chai tea ceremony can be booked in advance. With a museum ticket, you can also visit the Peipsi Järve Elu room with a permanent exhibition located next door.

The Kalevipoja Chamber located in Jõgeva County, Kääpa includes the Kalevipoja Museum, the Kalevipoja Adventure Park, the Kalevipoja Playground and the Saare community center. In the Kalevipoja museum, you can get an excellent overview of the Estonian national epic "Kalevipoeg" and have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the most important events in a playful way. Anyone who wishes can listen to the epic as an audiobook or sit in the "Plane" and watch a short film about places in Estonia related to Kalevipoja. In the Kalevipoja Adventure Park, you can test yourself between the earth and the sky by choosing either a higher or a lower path. Those who wish can also play disc golf. In Kalevipoja's playground, unique Kalevipoja-sized tools or his furniture are placed. The Museum of Living History in Varnja is a permanent exhibition which introduces the life of the Old Believers in the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The museum examines the life of three villages in the Peipus area.The museum was created with love and it gives the visitor an opportunity to feel the centuries-old vibe.On request, the museum serves samovar tea and pies baked in a Russian oven. The exact price will be agreed upon with the service provider.If you wish, you can order a guide (20 euros). As the museum is small, up to 25 people can visit it at a time.

The 19th-century Tartu Citizen's Home Museum is located in one of the most unique areas of Tartu's Old Town, close to St. John's Church. The museum is housed in a wooden building completed in the 1740s, making it one of the oldest surviving residential houses in Tartu. With its historical ambiance and meticulously restored interior, the building takes visitors back to the early 19th century, when Tartu was a vibrant city of wealthy citizens and craftsmen. At the museum, you can learn more about the daily lives of urban citizens in the 1830s. Various rooms, furnished in the German Biedermeier style typical of the era, can be seen. The cozy, authentic atmosphere offers an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of everyday life in a 19th-century Tartu home. During the summer season, a small garden is open, where plants and flowers of the period thrive, offering a glimpse of what urban greenery might have looked like almost two centuries ago. It is possible to participate in guided, thematic tours and educational programs.
