Guided tour in Tartu Old Town and Toomemägi Hill

Between Hellenurme, Elva, and Otepää, there is a unique opportunity to see Estonia's last historical water-powered flour and grist mill in operation – the Hellenurme Water Mill. Upon arrival, we explore the mill building and views over the mill pond to Hellenurme Manor, then we open the turbine, and the mill begins to work, powered by water. Through the mill's four floors, you can see, touch, and feel the power of the mill, and soon fresh flour and grist fall into the bag as in the old days. In the bread house, you can try breadmaking under the guidance of the Mill Mistress, honoring traditions and telling stories about bread and the wisdom of ancestors. In the bread trough, dough is kneaded from sourdough. Each guest molds their own little loaf from a dough ball, which the Mill Mistress throws into the large bread oven with an old bread peel. Soon, the bread house fills with the smell of bread, and each guest can take their loaf from the oven, which tastes warm and buttery like an unforgettable dessert! Construction of the Laiuse fortress was launched by the Livonian Order in the late 14th century to defend its eastern borders. The first defensive structure in Estonia to be fitted with firearms, it gained its definitive appearance in the late Middle Ages. Cannon towers were added to the fortress in the mid-15th century. The fortress crumbled in 1559 but was restored, with wooden barracks built at the end of the Swedish era, which accommodated Karl XII and his entourage from 1700–1701. After the Great Northern War the fortress lay in ruins.

Baroque architecture in concordance with pseudo Gothic architecture (alteration by Johann Gottfired Mühlhausen). Twelve small spiring pinnacles symbolise the twelve apostles of Jesus. The church manor is a historical parochial centre; there is a museum in the vicarage (built in 1817).

Come and discover the magic of blind embossing! Create your own embossed artwork in a unique printmaking workshop. Cut an image into a linoleum sheet and see how the play of shadow and light remains on the paper. Blind embossing is a printing technique where a linoleum block is printed without color, leaving only a relief mark on the paper. In the workshop, each participant will make a linoleum block (10x15 cm) according to their own design. Kuremaa mill is part of the Kuremaa manor complex; the fully renovated mill reopened in 2009. The ground floor is home to a function room with its own fireplace and a sales counter, while the first floor is the perfect place for exhibitions and training events. The second floor hosts an exhibition on the Dutch-style windmills that can be found in Estonia – including its most impressive piece, a model of the Kuremaa windmill. On the third, that is the top floor, you can admire the views over Vooremaa from the narrow windows.The Kuremaa mill is marked with a yellow National Geographic window, representing one of the 21 places worth discovering in South Estonia; these are highly recommended to nature enthusiasts.

Come and take look at the modern and spacious church of the Tartu Salem Baptist Congregation (architect Maarja Nummert). The church was opened on 28 June 1988 with a concert and thanksgiving service. You are welcome to enjoy concerts in the church hall that has great acoustics and space for almost 400 people. Interesting facts: - the only baroque organ in Tartu is in the Tartu Salem Baptist Church; - the church offers accommodation to travellers.
