Guided tour ‘Flavours of the Onion Road: from onion pies to chicory coffee’

The Onion Road has many layers of flavours. During the tour, we will discover the local culture through all of them. Participants will learn the secrets of Ivan Chai, eat the famous onion pies of Kostja, taste chicory cake and coffee, and drink local craft wines.In addition, we will make a bag with block printing, learn the story of the Old Believers and the Baltic German landlords, and find out how the locals grow onions.It is possible to order the tour with (additional 150 euros) or without a guide.We will choose the dishes and places in accordance with your wishes and the season.

Estonian Aviation Museum

The Estonian Aviation Museum near Tartu is an exciting destination for aviation enthusiasts and families! This canoe trip in South Estonia, on the Võhandu River through a primeval valley, is suitable for anyone looking for untouched nature, adventure, and beautiful views! You do not need previous experience or canoeing skills because the canoes are stable, and the instruction beforehand is thorough. We organize canoe trips along the most attractive sections of the Võhandu River; trips can last from two hours to three days. The river valley is popular with hikers for its unique sandstone outcrops. The canoe trip includes equipment (canoes, paddles, life jackets, waterproof bags), instruction, shore security, and a car transfer to the endpoint.

Mesi Tare day trip: Boat trip to Piirissaar in Lake Peipsi

The host of Mesi Tare will take your group on an adventure to Piirissaar, a small island in Lake Peipsi! We start from the Varnja Harbor, where the host will be waiting with a fishing boat. The boat trip lasts two hours, depending on the weather and water level. We will walk with a guide through Piirissaar's three villages and see all the important places on the island, including the Piirissaare Old Believers Museum, the location of the Old Believers' prayer house, the Orthodox church and the Piirissaare Titanic. For lunch, the guide will take you to Zinaida's home, where she will lay out a magnificent table for her guests. (Note: The food must be paid for on the spot.) The day ends with a boat trip back to Varnja.

University of Tartu Art Museum

The University of Tartu Art Museum is located in the historical University Main Building and has Pompeian-style interior. The museum’s permanent exhibition consists of sculptures, mostly from the antiquity – original size plaster cast copies of the best works of Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic Greece. The Art Museum also displays many ancient originals: coins, vases, clay lamps, and cuneiform tablets. There is also the mysterious mummy chamber, where you can find a genuine Egyptian mummy. You can also visit the beautiful Assembly Hall of the university and the student lock-up in the attic.
