The hand-made printed clothes and home textiles made in Peipsimaa Visitor Centre have been awarded with the ‘Certified Estonian Arisinal Craft’ mark, which is the highest recognition in Estonia.Our shop sells items inspired by the handicraft of Peipsimaa and Old Believers, such as hand-printed skirts and shirts, pottery, gold embroidery bags, rugs, Kodavere belts and gloves, and gold-plated magnet onions. Kallaste, located in southern Estonia, has been a well-known fishing town for decades, and one of the largest fish farms on Estonia's largest lake, Lake Peipsi, is located here. Lake Peipsi is one of the most fish-rich lakes in Europe, and we sell and process fish caught directly from the lake. The shop has a large selection of smoked and frozen fish and fish products guaranteed to make your mouth water. The selection includes perch fillet slices in red marinade, hot-smoked bream in oil, and tšugudai made from raw cod fillet marinated in vinegar and onion. You will certainly notice the Von Bock House (1780) at Ülikooli 16 in the centre of Tartu, which used to belong to Oberst MJ von Bock. The University of Tartu bought the building in 1839. The house was renovated and reopened in 2007. There is a mural that depicts the main building of the University of Tartu on the building’s wall that faces the Town Hall and an exhibition of Alar Madisson’s photos of current lecturers and legendary professors of the University of Tartu is up on the wall next to Jakobi Street.Interesting facts: - the Von Bock has been the home of the University of Tartu Clinic, a veterinary school and the library of the Learned Estonian Society in different times. The building currently belongs to the University of Tartu.
The Freedom Bridge is a bridge over the Emajõgi River in the centre of Tartu. It connects Lai tänav with Vene tänav. The current bridge, with a slab of reinforced concrete and an arch of steel, was opened on 30 July 2009. The bridge is 90 m long and 13.35 m wide. In the dark, the bridge is illuminated. A lot of eye-catching street art can be found on the concrete surfaces of the lower part of the bridge.As the location of the bridge has high banks and a narrow riverbed, the site was used for river crossing as early as in ancient times. It is not known exactly how many bridges there have been before the current Freedom Bridge.
The Musical Instruments Museum has more than 3,000 exhibits, which include various musical instruments, as well as other exciting things from other fields. For example, in addition to musical instruments, you can see and explore speakers, microphones, amplifiers, and effects units from different eras. Turgi Handicraft Farm offers a creative holiday by weaving on looms.The selection includes various several-day courses, because the hostess Veinika Västrik introduces the basics of weaving to the beginners and more complex weaving techniques to the more experienced participants. Karula Church has been working in the converted manor granary since 1997. The most special feature of the church is the stained glass painting 'Eucharist' of Estonian artist Dolores Hoffmann which depicts local people as the disciples against the background of the holly landscape of Karula.The doors of the Karula Church are open to visitors during Sunday services. Please contact a representative of the congregation if you wish to visit the church some other time. Interesting facts: • The same building was used as an animal barn during the Soviet times. • The stained glass painting was donated to Karula Church by the descendants of the German squires the von Grotes.
