Mesi Tare winter experience with karakats on frozen Lake Peipsi

Did you know that historically, there were nine manor houses in Tartu? The city of Tartu has expanded in all directions to the areas of former manors, and several districts have been named after these manors. Seven of them still exist and are waiting for you to visit.As part of the guided tour 'Tartu City Manors', we will visit five manors: Tähtvere, Maarjamõisa, Tamme, Ropka, and Karlova. Experience a magical evening under lantern light as a friendly sled dog walks by your side! The walk takes you to the snowy forest trails of Tartu County, where the guide shares fascinating knowledge about the native nature and tells stories related to the forest. Together with the dogs and lanterns, it creates a fairy-tale feeling, as if stepping into a timeless winter evening. In the middle of the hike, a campfire spot awaits, where a fire is lit to create a cozy atmosphere. You can enjoy campfire stories, drink warm tea, grill sausages and marshmallows, and feel how the silence and darkness of the winter evening become cozy thanks to the firelight and company. This is the perfect opportunity to spend time with friends, colleagues, or family. The hike is suitable for participants of all ages – especially children, who delight in the company of dogs and the charm of the forest. The evening walk is a great way to take a break, breathe in the crisp forest air, and experience a genuine Nordic adventure. Come and create unforgettable memories in the company of sled dogs – it is an experience that warms the heart even on the coldest winter evening.

The hike will last up to three hours. We will ice skate along the channels that are covered with smooth ice. We will also skate over/around flooded meadows, stop at beaver dams and otter burrows, explore animal tracks on the snow, and admire Lake Peipus as well. In the middle of the hike, we will take a short break to drink tea and have a bite to eat. If it is allowed to go on Lake Peipus at the time of the hike, we will skate back along the shore of Lake Peipus. The hike is for adults!Participants will receive the hiking skates (attached to your boots), poles, and ice awls. NB! Bring your ID-card.

Karusaare dogsled trips in Tartu County offer unforgettable experiences throughout the year in the forest landscape of Järvselja and the Peipsiveere Nature Reserve in Emajõe-Suursoo. From autumn to spring, we move on off-road carts and, in winter, when there is enough snow, on traditional sleds. You can choose a shorter trip or a longer journey. It is an appropriate activity for the whole family, including children over the age of 3. The hike begins and ends at the sled dog training center, where the instructor shares the necessary safety and driving instructions. On our journey, we take short breaks to water the dogs, and on longer journeys, we stop by the fire to enjoy a bit of heat, light, and warm food. If you wish, you can also order catering to make your trip even more memorable. Trips only take place when the air temperature is below +12 °C and there is no storm warning or wind gusting above 15 m/s.

As the name suggests, it is a museum that introduces means of communication and laptops. The Communication and Laptop Museum opened its doors on June 10, 2023. In the communications museum section, there is a switchboard with cords, a telephone exchange from 1969; main distribution frame; telephone sets; payphones + payphone booths; overhead lines; mail baskets; communication instruments. Large Elion-Microlink-EMT-Telia signs and logos that used to be on the buildings. Also over several hundred mobile phones, among them old NMT mobile devices, antennas, and a 13 m cell phone mast. In terms of computers, there are a few desktop computers and twenty laptops.You can make calls inside the museum with a dial phone.

The interactive exhibition at Alatskivi Castle's horse stable provides a good overview of manor life. The central part of the exhibition is a drawing of the Alatskivi Manor estate grounds, which explains the management and living environment of the entire complex. You will learn what role purebred dog breeding played in the manor, how forestry was managed, how much income Alatskivi Manor earned, and where the money came from to build the fairytale castle. The play corner with a beautiful replica of the castle and dolls will delight the youngest visitors. The horse stable is perfect for organizing concerts and events! During the forest bathing journey, you will experience the forest through your five senses, have the chance to look both outward and inward, cultivate a greater sense of well-being, and gift yourself with greater physical ease and mental balance. Being in contact with nature, we feel how something inside us settles again. We conclude the journey together around the campfire, enjoying warm drinks and forest-inspired flavors. The journey is conducted with care and attention by Helen and Anneli, who have trained as forest bathing guides in Japan. St. Paul's Church in Tartu is unique because it is the only Art Nouveau church in Estonia. The church features a national romantic and geometric design. The church is also famous for its two steel bells, which were made in 1922 in Germany. The glass-domed bell tower offers a stunning view of the city of Tartu. It can be reached by stairs, and on the way to the tower, you can see a small gallery that explains the church's history. A visit to the church tower is available for an additional fee. The church has a columbarium, a crypt, and a bookstore. You can also order a church tour, a private organ concert, or catering from the church kitchen.
