St John’s Church is an eye-catching building; its architect was Friedrich Siegel. There is an altar painting Christ on the Cross (A. Bauer, 1857) and a pseudo-Gothic altar, and two nationally protected wooden candlesticks (1810) and an armchair from the birch wood dating from the 18th century. On top of the spire there is a morning star. Interesting to know: St John’s Church in Kanepi was built in 1804-1810 to replace the old wooden church. In 1831 the church was set on fire by lightning. The church in Kanepi has been in its current state since the year 1877.

The Italian-style pizza restaurant Malmizza awaits you in the old Tõrva tavern located in the centre of Tõrva. Pizzas are cooked on open fire in the style of Naples and you can enjoy a pleasant Italian vibe. Our menu changes seasonally, but there are always different pastas, salads, and desserts. Karl Ernst von Baer was a biologist, the founder of descriptive and comparative embryology and an academician of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences. He studied medicine in Tartu from 1810 to 1811 and obtained the degree of doctor of medicine here. He was a professor of zoology and anatomy in Königsberg from 1817. He studied anthropology, geography and ichthyology during his time in St Petersburg. He spent the last years of his life (1867-1876) in Tartu where he wrote his 3-volume collection of articles and speeches and participated in the activities of the Estonian Naturalists Society and was elected its president in 1869.The statue of Karl Ernst von Baer was completed in 1886, its author is M. Opeku.

The 3.5 km trail introduces different forest communities. It can be accessed from the parking lot at the beginning of the trail or the Sihi and Papi campfire sites. The trail runs along boardwalks and paths of varied landscape. It also passes the burial ground of the Manteuffel family and a complex monitoring station. You can camp and make a fire under a cover at the Sihi and Papi campfire sites. The trail is suitable for visitors of all ages, as it is interesting and educational.

At the Ülejõe promenade everyone can enjoy greenery at the heart of the city. At the promenade meandering along the bank of the River Emajõgi you will come across colourful flora and fauna. From the observation platforms and swing benches one can enjoy a view overlooking the River Emajõgi where fishermen and sea gulls catch fish and ships and paddle boarders pass by.The promenade starts from the Turusild Bridge and ends at the Lodjakoda and the City Swimming Pool (ca 2.5 km in length).The area from the Turusild Bridge towards the Anne Canal is a starting point for an exciting Soviet era district consisting of five- and nine-storey buildings – Annelinn, which is also called a bedroom suburb as it is the most populated settlement area in Tartu.

Come and discover the magic of blind embossing! Create your own embossed artwork in a unique printmaking workshop. Cut an image into a linoleum sheet and see how the play of shadow and light remains on the paper. Blind embossing is a printing technique where a linoleum block is printed without color, leaving only a relief mark on the paper. In the workshop, each participant will make a linoleum block (10x15 cm) according to their own design.
