During the tour, Marko discusses the customs, architecture, and lifestyle of the Old Believers, as well as the importance of Lake Peipus for the local community. Emajõe-Suursoo, located in Tartu County, is home to dozens of bog islands and pristine nature, where a local guide can take you on an adventure. Since humans rarely set foot here, the area is home to a diverse range of species. Using bogshoes, we will walk across the bog islands and explore their primeval forests. We will definitely see traces of animal and bird activity and maybe even meet the local inhabitants themselves. If you are lucky, you may find a proud eagle owl or moose antlers during the hike. The uninhabited Salosaar is one of the 30 islands of Lake Peipsi. There used to be a farm, a restaurant with a dance floor and a windmill on the island but these were destroyed in different wars. The defence line that the Germans built during WWII but never used has also collapsed. At the moment, the island does not have any inhabitants; the only 'vacationers' are cormorants.
