If you are exploring the Onion Route in a campervan or caravan, you can spend the night at Peipsi Caravan camping. The recreation area, which has been transformed into a natural park and is located in an old farmyard, has ten caravan sites with electricity. There is also enough space for campers with tents. You can take domestic water from a well.In winter period (from October until March) you can rent the whole holiday home, which accommodates 6 people. In addition you can relax in the authentic smoke sauna. Sauna heating by prior arrangement.Lake Peipus and the Nina beacon light are only a ten-minute walk away from the recreation area. Põltsamaa Castle has been an important site throughout the centuries and carries a distinguished history – founded in 1272 on the riverbank, it was the residence of Magnus, the King of Livonia, and later evolved into a magnificent Rococo palace. Wars and fires left the castle in ruins, but now it has come back to life and is waiting for you to visit! Today, the castle offers visitors plenty of excitement. First and foremost, it is worth climbing to the viewing platform of the seven-story castle tower, where a captivating view of the city unfolds in every season. The tower is crowned by a restored historical dome, which is unique in all of Estonia. The church, located within the complex, is built directly into the castle's fortification walls and tower, and is open daily during the summer. The convent and gatehouse feature a modern exhibition that tells the colorful story of the castle and the town of Põltsamaa. In the castle courtyard, craft workshops await, where you can watch the work of masters or purchase something interesting yourself. Café-restaurant Suur Muna is located in Haanja Nature Park, right at the foot of the highest peak in the Baltics, Suur Munamäe, and is one of the most popular places to eat in South Estonia. The food is primarily made from local and organic ingredients sourced from farmers in Võru County, following the "farm to table" principle. The menu features local snacks, handmade ravioli and pasta, a variety of salads, fish dishes, lamb and game meats, and desserts. The facility features a play corner and an outdoor area for children, as well as a cinema and a seminar room on the second floor. Pets are also welcome! Suur Muna is waiting for you!
Café Newton, located in the center of Tartu at the AHHAA Science Center, is a pleasant place for both lunch and leisure. Our menu offers a refreshing, varied selection of daily specials and classic dishes. The selection includes soups, various steaks, and vegetarian dishes. Every day, a fresh cake selection is displayed at the counter, delighting every sweet tooth. A separate menu is provided for children, tailored to our young guests, along with a children's play area offering plenty of activities for longer periods. Café Newton offers catering for training sessions, seminars, birthdays, and other events at AHHAA. It is also convenient to organize a company Christmas party, a birthday party, or a family lunch here. Café Newton's menu is flexible and caters to all tastes. During the summer, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Tartu from our spacious terrace. No AHHAA ticket is required to visit Café Newton, and entry is free for everyone. AHHAA visitors can visit the café throughout their stay at the center.
Tähtvere Sport Park, located in Tartu's Supilinn area, offers activities for everyone and is ideal for an active day. The sports park has several trail options: an 850-meter asphalt roller track for rollerblading and roller skiing in summer, an 850-meter woodchip running track, and a 1.2 km sprint track. In winter, both the roller track and the sprint track are covered with artificial snow and maintained with a trail tractor, allowing skiing in both classic and freestyle techniques even when natural snow is scarce. One of the most important and internationally known parts of Tähtvere Sport Park is the Tartu Bike Park, which features four key facilities: a skatepark, a pump track, a BMX cross track, and a bike park. These pose challenges for both experienced riders and those trying cycling for the first time. The sports park also offers a variety of exciting activities, including an outdoor gym with different areas, a climbing wall, and slackline tracks. The Tartu Song Festival Grounds and Tähtvere disc golf park are also near the park.
The Fairy Trail, also known as the Vitipalu Adventure Trail, offers a fairytale experience for both children and adults. The trail takes you through the mushroom and berry forests of Elva, where Witch Island awaits, featuring the lovely "Little Witch" house, cool tree sculptures, and a low-adventure trail built in the middle of the forest, perfect for children and families to have a great time in nature. The 1.4 km long trail, part of which is accessible with a stroller, intersects with the Elva River's primeval valley hiking trail and introduces the diverse landscape of Elva. The trail starts and ends at the RMK Jõeharu picnic area and camping site, where several shelters with grills and campfire sites are available.
