Värska Farm Museum

Värska Farm Museum is a unique place in Setomaa, offering comprehensive insight into the life of a wealthy Seto fortified farm in the 1920s. It is a great place to experience Seto culture, architecture, and traditions.
The building complex includes a smoke sauna, a residential building, a clothing, dining and granary barn, an animal barn, a hay barn, a men’s workshop, a threshing floor, a blacksmith’s shop, and a pottery factory — you can get an overview of the entire Seto architecture. The museum also houses genuine Estonian farm animals. Various workshops are offered upon reservation, such as making sõir, bread making, and crocheting Seto lace, among others.
The largest handicraft shop in Setomaa is open under the threshing floor!

Boat trip on the historic barge «Suur Sume»

The "Suur Sume" barge is the largest wooden sailing ship built in the Baltic States after World War II. Varnja Samovar House

Peipsiveere Samovar House is a small museum in the Old Believers' village of Varnja that introduces visitors to the world of samovars and tea culture along Lake Peipsi. The private collection, accumulated over decades, contains more than 200 diverse samovars. From simple tin samovars to rare ones with elaborate engravings, reflecting the skills and traditions of masters from different eras. The exhibition, located in an authentic Old Believers' house, offers visitors insight into why the samovar was more than just a kettle for centuries. Stories reveal the origins of samovars, manufacturing techniques, usage methods, different design types, and tea-drinking traditions in the communities along the lake. Every guest can taste genuine samovar tea and the famous Ivan chai, and try traditional boiled sugar with the tea, an integral part of Old Believers' tea culture. If desired, one can also explore handmade samovar accessories and hear stories from the hostess of Mesi Tare about preparing, serving, and respectfully preserving tea.

If you want to relax on the Onion Route by Lake Peipsi, then Mesi Tare is the right place! We offer a special Instagrammable boat tour starting from Mesi Tare in Varnja, where we divide the group into small boats. The guide is the owner of Mesi Tare, who will captain one of the boats himself. In other boats, you can be the boat captain! We will explore Old Believer villages, sail along the shore, and moor in various small canals to visit places on the shore, including Voronja Gallery, Lendav Laev home restaurant, the Samovar House, Peipsimaa Heritage Center, and other places. Come and discover the Onion Route and Lake Peipsi by water!

Haunted dinners at Alatskivi Castle

We offer an unforgettable experience with a haunted dinner at Alatskivi Castle. Travel back in time to 140 years ago when the Nolcken family lived in the manor, and there was no electricity or modern technology. During the evening, the lady of the manor will move through the dark rooms of the castle, telling stories of bygone times and ghostly legends, because the castle is truly haunted! The experience includes a guided tour of the castle and a 3-course period-themed dinner, accompanied by a welcome drink. It is possible to order additional drinks with the courses. The minimum number of people is 10. Come and enjoy the historical atmosphere, delicious food, and mystical stories!

Workshop about the tea culture on the shores of Lake Peipsi

During this workshop exploring the tea culture of the Lake Peipsi region, we will learn about the tea drinking customs of the Old Believers and learn about Ivan Chai (fireweed tea), how it is made, and the role it has played in Peipsiveere villages. The workshop takes place at the Varnja Samovar House, which is located in a traditional Old Believer dwelling. There, you can take a closer look at the use of samovars in households around Lake Peipsi, learn about their history, and enjoy tea with the Old Believers' traditional boiled sugar. Depending on the season, participants can also try making Ivan Chai themselves. In the summer, this is done together with the hostess of Mesi Tare, who guides you through the entire process from picking the plant to drying it. During the autumn-winter period, the focus is on Ivan Chai's history and use, discussing its medicinal properties, traditional tea culture, and tasting a variety of tea flavors. Visit us with a group or team for the Peipsiveere tea culture workshop!

A Hike in Wintry Nature With Lanterns

The night hike with lanterns is an adventure! The guided hike with lanterns is a great idea for celebrating a birthday, a corporate event, an outing with friends or family or introducing Estonian nature to guests. Spend the romantic hours of twilight with the lantern hike on a bog's boardwalk or on snowshoes. The hike with lanterns can last from 1.5 to 4 hours. Book the Forest Restaurant's catering for the end of the hike. You can also go on the night hike with kicksleds or snowshoes. Ask for suggestions on hiking areas, routes and beautiful campsites! The hikes take place all over Estonia. Minimum group fee is 300 € (up to 10 people.
