We organize fatbike hikes in Taevaskoda year-round. From spring to autumn, we ride along forest trails on the banks of the ancient valley of the Ahja River. In winter, we also stop by the ice of Lake Taevaskoda. The most famous places on the route are Suur- and Väike Taevaskoda, Neitsikoobas Cave, and the Kiidjärve water mill and manor park. The tour runs most of the time along beautiful forest trails in the varied landscape of South Estonia. The tour is suitable for anyone who is at least 150 cm tall. The pace is calm, and we take breaks to catch our breath and chat every 15-20 minutes. We talk about nature and local attractions. Taevaskoda has a rich history and cultural heritage; it contains sacred places and springs important to ancient Estonians. This area is known for its sandstone outcrops and magical forest trails. You will find this historicist red-brick church (architect Arved Eichorn), which is the first new church built in the Republic of Estonia, in the peaceful little town Elva. Tartu St John’s Congregation used to operate in Elva for some time. This is why some details of the Elva Church remind of Tartu St John’s Church – the rarely used plaster and brick imitation of a rose window on the western wall of the church refers to the medieval rose window that can be found in Tartu St John’s Church.
The longest Devonian sandstone outcrop in Estonia is located in Kallaste. The measurements done in 2001 show that the outcrop is about 930 metres long. The maximum height of the outcrop is 8 metres. Starting from the south side of the town and moving towards the central square, you can see 11 outcrops. When the water level rises during high waters, the waves chip away the outcrop, creating many caves in the sandstone. The largest of these are more than 1.5 m high and up to 6 m deep.The southernmost and highest outcrop has been under protection since 1959.According to legends, an ancient and magical smith used to live in the caves.

Hinni Canyon is located in the special protection zone of Haanja Nature Park and is a unique canyon valley in all of Estonia. Hinni Canyon has cut into Devonian era sandstone. It is a 15-20 m deep and 300 m long ravine with steep slopes, at the bottom of which flows the fast-flowing Enni stream. When visiting Hinni Canyon, it is worth considering that here you can experience the true power of nature: the sandstone cuts through the landscape, deep in a transverse direction, the slopes rise around – this is a rare and visually impactful place in Estonia. The trail at the bottom of the valley runs alongside the stream. Enni stream flows quickly and adds the sound of water and fresh air to the adventure. Moreover, in the outcrops, you can notice indentations, smaller caves, and more secluded inner cuts, creating a mystical feeling. From a nature conservation standpoint, it is important that this place is located in the special protection zone.Good to know: there is no additional lighting at the site, so it is best visited during the day. Since Hinni Canyon is partially located on private land, walking with dogs is not allowed!
The 3-km-long circular forestry study trail, starting at Laari campfire site, is suitable for a peaceful walk for holidaymakers at the campfire site, nature lovers, and hikers with pets.The trail is very diverse - it runs along the paths and trails of the bright pine forest, the mysterious pine forest, and the eye-catching birch forest, over the Lambiniidu and a ditch, over which wooden bridges have been built.The trail is marked with signs and red dots on trees, the information boards on the trail introduce the surrounding nature and the different ways of forest management.
