Mesi Tare bog safari by boat in Emajõe Suursoo

Discover the secrets of Estonian nature on Mesi Tare's bog safari, which takes you from Varnja to remote areas of Emajõe Suursoo that are inaccessible by foot. During the boat trip, you will see lesser-known rivers and lakes, cormorant forests, and hidden corners of the bog, while listening to the soothing sounds of waves and nature. Traveling in small boats gives you the opportunity to be the captain of your crew for the whole day, enjoying the ride at your own pace. One of our boats is a historical Peipsi wooden boat, adding an authentic touch to the journey. The safari is not just a trip but also an educational experience, as guide Marko introduces the area's nature and history. After the boat ride, a delicious and hearty campfire lunch awaits you, where you can enjoy the silence and surrounding nature. This experience is perfect for families, friends, or couples looking for an active, educational, and unforgettable nature experience in Estonia. Come and see how the Estonian bog turns into an adventure you won't forget!

Estonian Flag Room

Otepää is like the cradle of the blue, black and white flag of Estonia – the current national flag of Estonia was consecrated and blessed here on 4 June 1884. First of all, the flag was used by Estonian students, then it became the national flag of Estonia and when the Republic of Estonia was created, the colours blue, black and white were declared the national colours. The concept of the museum came from Pastor of the Otepää Maarja (St Mary’s) Congregation of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Jüri Stepanov (02.03.1952-17.06.2008), who was also in charge of its establishment. The Estonian Flag Room was opened in the Otepää Rectory on 23 December 1996 to illustrate the story of the black, blue and white flag that is so important for Estonians.

Kissing Hill (Musumägi)

Locals call the artificial hill on the Toome Hill, in the immediate vicinity of the Cathedral, the Kissing Hill. It was built in the 19th century as part of the park’s romantic design over the former Moscow Rondel at Karl XI Bastion. Today, stairs lead to the Kissing Hill and at the top, there is a viewing platform with benches. Next to the Kissing Hill, there is a monument to the poet Kristjan Jaak Peterson, between the sacrificial stone, the hill, and the cathedral. The place has been popular with young couples who take pictures there. There have been open-air performances on and around the Kissing Hill.
